Sandy and her husband have us believing in love at first sight again!

After meeting on a blind date and spending all night talking over a glass of wine at a local pub, he later proposed to Sandy on the back deck of a restaurant in Perth along the beautiful Swan River. She of course, said yes, and so begins their story.

The Wedding: Our wedding day was amazing! It was on the beach in Gnarabup, Margaret River WA. We booked out the White Elephant Beach Café which is right on the beach and all our guests stayed at the Margaret River Beach Resort which was only a 400m walk from our wedding venue.

We got married barefoot in the sand. It was a cocktail style function with a beachy, boho vibe, so not formal and in a very relaxed and beautiful setting. It was so perfectly “us” and we loved every minute!

I could not have imagined a more perfect setting to tie the knot.

It wasn’t a completely seamless event though! A major challenge we had was navigating our wedding through the covid-19 crisis. We were married on the 20th March 2020 and WA was shut down two days later. We were extremely lucky to be one of the last weddings to happen in WA before lockdown. It was stressful, wondering if the day was going to happen or not, but in the end, we made it, JUST!!! It honestly made the day even more special for us even though our interstate and international guests did not make it.

The Vows: We wrote our own vows (my husband had some help from our celebrant). Writing something that was personal to us was very meaningful. My favourite part of the day was sharing our vows with each other. It was a heartfelt moment; there was laughter at the beginning and tears by the end; that was perfect in every way.

The Vibe: At heart, we are both modern day hippies and the boho relaxed vibe of our wedding could not have been more perfect for us.

Our inspiration came from the people who we are. We love the beach, the coast, the ocean and sunsets. This venue captured all of that and more, so we were very lucky to have it!

Relaxed and happy vibes were what we wanted to create for our day, and we nailed it!

Favourite Moment: My favourite moment of the day was the ceremony and sharing our vows to each other. We were both a little nervous at the beginning but once we got into it, it was perfect.

Our celebrant had personalised the ceremony, worded from our past experiences as a couple. Our ceremony was not religious but was perfectly tailored to our personalities. So many people complimented our amazing celebrant!

The Dress: My dress! I found it on Pinterest when I was searching “boho wedding dress” and fell in love with it as soon as I saw it!

It’s from a French label called Rue De Seine and although I could have bought it online, I needed to try it on first to make sure it suited me. So, I flew to Sydney one weekend to try it on and bought it that very day! It was very extravagant and not something I would normally have done, but I loved the dress so much. I had so many compliments on it on my wedding day! Our guests were saying they had never seen anything else quite like it and I love being unique, so it really was the perfect dress for me.

I felt amazing and so relaxed wearing it because it was extremely comfortable. I would not have changed anything about it.

The Bridesmaid Dresses: I wanted my bridesmaids to wear something they were comfortable in, that they loved and that they would be able to wear again, so I did not want a traditional bridesmaid-style dress.

I was searching for dresses online when I came across Twosisters The Label. The dresses were exactly what I wanted and there was plenty of options for my girls to choose from within the blue and green colour scheme that I wanted.

The name of the label also caught my attention because all my bridesmaids, whether they were my friends or sisters-in-law, are my soul sisters, so we had a little joke running that we weren’t Twosisters, but Sevensisters!

We also ended up purchasing the tassel white earrings from Twosisters The Label as it matched the tassels on my dress perfectly, so it was the perfect tie-in between my dress and the bridesmaids.

First Dance: We danced to Al Green’s - Stay Together. It’s a very special song to us and we knew we’d be dancing to this when we first started planning the wedding.

Advice for Other Brides? Relax and breathe. Don’t get caught up in the things that you have no control over. There will be things that don’t happen exactly the way you want them to and that’s okay! It’s not about creating the perfect day, it’s about sharing the love between you and your partner and creating memories. So, as long as you have done that, then your day will be amazing. We created beautiful memories with our family and friends and that is what made our day perfect in every way. It was the best day of my life (apart from when I gave birth, of course!)
